Born to Lao refugees, Mattie was raised in Los Angeles, but returned permanently to Laos a decade ago. Her debut film, CHANTHALY was the first Lao film to screen outside of South East Asia. Her second film, DEAREST SISTER, received Special Jury Mentions at Sitges and Fantasporto, and was later selected as Laos’ first submission for the Foreign Language Film Award at the 90th Academy Awards. It was acquired and released by Shudder in the US. Her 2019 film THE LONG WALK premiered at Venice and went on to Toronto, Sitges, Fantastic, Busan, and Tokyo, before being released in the US by Yellow Veil. Mattie Do is Laos’ first, and only, female filmmaker. In 2021, she directed the episode Drug Traffic for Season 3 of CREEPSHOW for Shudder, and her film ENTANGLEMENT won the Award for Best Co-Production at the 2020 Macao IFFFAM Project Market.
